I absolutely love this record. I think it’s probably my favorite Spoon album (though I’ll hold judgment on that for a few more days, since I’m listening to all their stuff), and it’s even up there with Fashion Nugget and Greetings From Asbury Park as one of my favorite albums ever by anybody. I think it also has some of the most iconic album art of anything else I can think of. Up there with Aja and as I discovered recently Nathaniel Rateliff.
I don’t think I can name a favorite track on this record because so many of them are so good, and interestingly in several different ways. The Beast and Dragon, Adored and My Mathematical Mind are dark and gloomy, while I Turn My Camera On and They Never Got You have these great up-tempo beats. And then there’s Sister Jack that I somehow always forget about but is really fun. I couldn’t talk this record up enough if I tried, but honestly, just go listen to it if you haven’t heard it before. Or even if you have. It’s probably the best introduction to Spoon you’re going to get.
