As I mentioned when I listened to The Incredibles score yesterday, I’m spending the long President’s Day weekend watching all the feature-length Pixar movies. I just finished watching Monsters University and while I didn’t want to listen to another score, I did like the vibe of the music during its end credits. It was very brassy/marching band/collegiate. I decided since Too Many Zooz would fit that vibe, and because it’s another EP (and arguably cheating again) it’s shorter, so I can enjoy this “half an album” and get back to the film fest.

I have to say that while I still really like this band, their second EP is not as good as the first. It’s maybe impossible to top the energy of the first. I will say that while that sensationalism of the first is gone, they do seem to have improved their sound. The drums are much less a distraction in Fanimals and more a part of the ensemble. The band seems to gel together better on this one. But that also means they don’t seem to have the same bawdy solos this time around. So I guess it’s both a loss and a gain for the band. I mentioned in my F Note review that I intend to listen to as much Too Many Zooz as I can for this project. This is the last of their albums that I’ve already heard, so I’m looking forward to getting back to them next time to see if they can find a better balance of experience and that raw talent that I miss on this album.
