I don’t think I have all that much to say about Buddy Holly that I didn’t say yesterday when I listened to Ritchie Valens. I think I liked this album slightly less, but it was a very similar feeling. If I had listened to it when it was first pressed, I’d probably have appreciated the music a lot more. I will say, though, that I was surprised by how different the two albums were. Given that they were released the same year and are of the same genre, I was expecting them to be much more similar stylistically. My impression of Buddy Holly was that it was much more influenced by Country & Western that Ritchie Valens was. This is likely a problem with my exposure (or lack thereof) to the music of this era, that I was expecting it to sound more similar than it did.
